New Business:
1) Dan Sundt, Fire Chief for the Oronoco Fire Department, representing concerned citizens of Oronoco Township asked the Board for advice in better serving the township residents with a closer fire department. By being closer to a fire station (within five miles), residences can receive a better ISO rating, resulting in a lower homeowner’s insurance premium. The Oronoco Fire Department believes that by going back to an automatic mutual aid agreement between the Pine Island Fire Department and the Oronoco Fire Department for fire coverage in Oronoco Township, it would help many residents with the issue of being too far away from a fire station. Richard and Neil explained the involvement of Oronoco Township in the Pine Island Area Fire District. After lengthy discussion, everybody agreed that mutual aid would be beneficial to the township residents. Neil and Richard suggested that the Oronoco Fire Department, with the Oronoco Township Board’s blessing, meet with the Pine Island Area Fire District at their next meeting (January 12, 2012) to discuss mutual aid. Neil Stolp requested that Dan report back to the Board with the results of their meeting.
2) The Board discussed the options of appointing a Deputy Clerk and a Deputy Treasurer as required. An option to work with another township, possibly New Haven, and swap positions was discussed. Tabled until February meeting.
Comments:
Allen Schumacher asked for the Board’s approval to trim trees on the Right of Way to keep his crew busy since there has not been much for snow removal.
The Board agreed it would be ok as long as they checked with the residents before trimming their trees.
Richard Lyke made a motion to adjourn, Neil Stolp seconded. Motion carried.
